Business

The Business Department at Fallston High School introduces students to the business concepts and skills necessary to succeed in today’s workplace.   Students explore the foundations of accounting, financial technical literacy, computer science,  entrepreneurship, production and management.   These courses increase the student’s knowledge of ethics, economics, career planning and technology in the workplace.

Each year students develop leadership qualities, problem solving and critical thinking skills, as well as improving their communication skills.  The main goal of our department is to prepare students for careers in business, entrepreneurial or business related fields. Students who excel in their business courses are eligible to join the National Business Honor Society.

Dual Enrollment – What Is It?

This is an opportunity for HCPS high school students to take two 3-credit business course at Harford Community College (HCC). The credits will count toward earning both a high school credit for the business course as well as 3 college credits per semester.  The courses are online, and high school business teachers will facilitate the students during the class period. HCPS students will be required to enroll and pass a minimum of 1 HCC business related course per semester (Fall/Spring) to fulfill the two college level course equivalent required to meet the Business Capstone credit. Students will end the school year with a total of 6 college credits, if they have been successful in both semester courses.

What is my Responsibility as a Dual Enrollment Student?

Please understand that when you commit to taking an HCC course, you are accepting full responsibility of all assignments, tests, deadlines, etc.  Your grade in the HCC course will carry over to your pathway course for HCPS.  Please know that if you fail your HCC course, you will fail your pathway high school course for that term.  Choosing not to complete your coursework, as stated in the syllabus, will jeopardize your ability to graduate, as your pathway will not be fulfilled.

What is a passing grade? How much does it cost?

HCPS will accept a passing grade of at least a D in both courses. However, the college you wish to transfer too may not accept that as a passing grade for credit. Tuition for the HCC courses is determined on the HCPS students GPA as outlined in the Student Enrollment Options. Students who do not have at least a 2.4 cumulative GPA will not be eligible for the tuition discount.
