Physical Education

PE

The purpose of Health and Physical Education is to educate and give exposure to students about physical fitness, individual and team sports, and lifetime activities.  It is important for students to be physically active and continue to be so throughout their lifetime in order to live a healthy lifestyle.

Students enter high school enrolled in both 9th grade Health (1 semester) and 9th grade PE (1 semester). This year is an exciting year because  starting with 2021-2022 first time 9th graders, the Health credit graduation requirement has increased from .5 to 1.0 credit. For the 2022-2023 school year and beyond, the following course has been added to complete the new 1.0 credit Health graduation requirement along with HE0105/HE0106, Health II.

HE0405/HE0406, Health II – Health in Action: This course focuses on using the introductory instruction from ninth grade health to expand the development of skills, attitudes and behaviors that will enable them to make decisions that promote healthful behaviors. Students engage in inquiry and problem-solving approaches utilizing a developmentally appropriate progression of content related to health education concepts. Successful completion of this course earns one-half of the required Health credit.
